EXCITING OPPORTUNITY FOR MEAT GOAT WETHER ENTHUSIASTS!

 

The Tall Corn Meat Goat Wether Jackpot Association, Inc. will be offering exciting opportunities to purchase and show wether meat goats. The association was formed in the fall of 2006 to promote the meat goat industry and encourage families to participate in meat goat projects.

Meat goats are the fastest growing segment of American agriculture for several reasons including:

•    63% of meat consumed worldwide is goat
•    Goat meat is low fat, heart healthy, easy to prepare and delicious
•    Goat meat market share is increasing in the United States with the increasing number of ethnic groups
•    Meat goats make excellent youth projects for children of all ages
•    Meat goats are compatible with other livestock
•    Meat goats are easily housed in backyards and on acreages

The goats that will be eligible for the Jackpot Futurity at the August ABGA Show must only be purchased from the Tall Corn Meat Goat Wether Jackpot Association Sale at the Kalona Sales Barn, Inc., on April 24, 2010.  The wether(s) purchased can be shown in 4H/FFA, youth and open shows anywhere in addition to the year-end state show sponsored by the Jackpot Association. The majority of the purse will be awarded to the winners of the Wether Futurity at the show in Washington, Iowa, on August 8th.

As with any new organization much work will be needed to promote the wethers and shows.  Promotion will enhance the meat goat  industry and provide additional family activities for both adults and youth.
